Calvary Chapel has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ focused on the inerrancy of the Bible and the expository teaching from Genesis to Revelation. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis of doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the body of Christ. Each week we teach verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book through the Bible. Therefore teaching the whole counsel of God.
In March of 2000 we began as a small fellowship, not knowing what God had in store for us or how He wanted to use us. Later that summer, God revealed to us His vision for Calvary Chapel of Kalamazoo. That vision was "God Gives Second Chances" based on the following passages of scripture:
-"It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fall not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23
-Peter is given a second chance at ministry in John 21.
-The story of the prodigal son in Luke 15.
We were to be a fellowship of mercy. In the coming months, God began to put together a family of believers that had experienced God's second chances. Not only did we grow to understand what God wanted us to do but also to understand more fully where we had come from. We will continue to praise Him for His mercy toward us and for using us to show His mercy to others.
God has provided us with an instruction manual that provides information on what the human race must do to establish a relationship with Him, in the current age, and reign with him in the coming age! The manual is called the Bible.
